Bosnia and Herzegovina issued its own postage stamps primarily during the period of its political changes and independence movements. The first stamps were issued in the late 19th century, around 1878-1879, during the Austro-Hungarian rule, often featuring imperial symbols or local motifs. After World War I, Bosnia became part of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes (later Yugoslavia), and its stamps were integrated into the Yugoslav postal system. In 1992, following the breakup of Yugoslavia, Bosnia issued its own stamps again, reflecting national symbols, historical themes, and cultural heritage.
