Many early Austrian stamps, such as the classic issues of the 1850s-1860s, have been forged extensively. These include counterfeit versions of the first issues like the “Basler Taube” or the 1850-1864 issues. These forgeries often differ slightly in design details, paper, or perforation, but can be very convincing to untrained eyes.
